ΕΥΑ ΓΕΡΑΚΗ
Τον Οκτώβριο του 2016, είχα την τιμή να παρουσιάσω την ατομική μου δουλειά στον συνεδριακό χώρο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, Art Atrium – Covent Garden στις Βρυξέλλες, μετά από πρόσκληση του επιμελητή κ. Thierry Bourgeois.
In October 2016, I had the honor of presenting
my solo work at the European Union's conference space, Art Atrium – Covent Garden in Brussels, following an invitation from curator Mr. Thierry Bourgeois.
Η σειρά "Daydreaming" αποτελείται από εικόνες που με γοητεύουν. Είναι σαν να ονειρεύομαι λίγο πριν παραδοθώ στον ύπνο. Σε αυτά τα "όνειρα," κυριαρχεί ένας οπτικός αποπροσανατολισμός, με στοιχεία που δεν θα μπορούσαν να υπάρχουν στην πραγματικότητα (όπως σε ένα όνειρο), όπως διαφάνειες, πόρτες που δεν θα έπρεπε να υπάρχουν και αβεβαιότητα για το τέλος της ιστορίας.
Το θέμα του πίνακα "Thoughts" είναι αφηρημένο. Το σχήμα, τα κομμάτια της μορφής και το χρώμα αποτελούν ένα βήμα προς την εξέλιξη της τεχνικής μου. Απομακρυνόμενη από το κάρβουνο, επιχειρώ μια βαθύτερη αναζήτηση οπτικής αποπλάνησης.
Ο πίνακας "Swimming" εκφράζει το επόμενο στάδιο της εικαστικής μου έκφρασης. Χρησιμοποιώ νέες χρωματικές μορφές, επηρεασμένες από τα φίλτρα του Instagram. Η μεγάλη θάλασσα λάμπει στην επιφάνειά της, αντικατοπτρίζοντας την ατμόσφαιρα μιας ζεστής ελληνικής βραδιάς.
Το έργο "Lake" παρουσιάζει ένα λιτό σκηνικό, με το κρύο τοπίο της Πελοποννήσου να δέχεται τυχαία μια πινελιά, σαν μπλε "όνειρο" που απλώνεται στην επιφάνειά του.
Το "The Girl Inside" είναι εμπνευσμένο από μια φωτογραφία που βρήκα σε μια εφημερίδα. Μέσα από αυτήν, δραπέτευσα σε μια άλλη εικόνα αφήγησης. Ο κύκλος στο παρασκήνιο αναφέρεται στους ιερούς κύκλους των βυζαντινών εικόνων και συμβολίζει την ισορροπία ανάμεσα στην παιδική ηλικία και την ωριμότητα.
Το "Chronos" αποτελεί σημαντικό κομμάτι της δουλειάς μου. Η γυναικεία φιγούρα κοιτάζει τη μεγάλη θάλασσα, και η ζωγραφική μου εξερευνά την αντίθεση μεταξύ στατικών στιγμών και του αδιάφορου χρόνου που τα αλλάζει όλα. Αυτή η απεικόνιση αντιπροσωπεύει τη συμβολική δράση των χρωμάτων μου.
Οι πίνακες "Tempi" και "Secret Garden" κρύβουν τη σκιά μιας ανθρώπινης φιγούρας ανάμεσα στις χρωματικές και φυτικές μορφές. Η φύση, εδώ από την κεντρική Ελλάδα και την Αθήνα, είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου περιβάλλοντα για καλλιτεχνική εξερεύνηση. Τα στοιχεία είναι τοποθετημένα μακριά από τα κύρια σχήματα, κάνοντάς το θέμα πιο περίπλοκο, κάτι που όμως αντανακλά την ουσία της ονειροπόλησης.
Το "The Big Blue Forest – Pavliani" είναι εμπνευσμένο από μια οικογενειακή βόλτα σε ένα από τα πιο όμορφα δάση της Ελλάδας. Οι χρωματικές μορφές των ρούχων του αγοριού συνδέονται με τις γειτονικές μορφές του δάσους, και το αίσθημα της παιδικής ηλικίας αποτυπώνεται σε ένα μονοπάτι γεμάτο από την ονειρική γοητεία ενός νέου είδους ονείρου.
Στο έργο "Plastic", ένα όμορφο κορίτσι βρίσκεται πίσω από μια διαφάνεια που αλλοιώνει ένα μέρος της, αλλά ευτυχώς, τα μάτια της βλέπουν καθαρά.
Ο πίνακας "Grouch" αναφέρεται στη διαδικασία της ωρίμανσης και στον "γκρινιάρη" παιδικό εαυτό μας. Παρά το ότι το παιχνίδι της καθημερινότητας μοιάζει οικείο και απλό, το παιδί μέσα μας και οι τυχαίες καταστάσεις συχνά σαμποτάρουν τον τελικό μας στόχο: να μεγαλώσουμε!
The "daydreaming" section is the kind of imagery that fascinates me, it's like I'm daydreaming just before I fully surrender to sleep. It is noteworthy that in these "dreams" there is visual disorientation, which is definitely not going to happen in reality (as in a dream), transparency, doors that should not be there, and uncertainty about the end of the story.
"swimming" is the next level of my point of view. I use new chromatic forms and I have been influenced by instagram filters. The big sea has all the sparkle on the surface and the atmosphere of a Greek warm evening. Figures are just another form at the painting and they don't have the main role. 9) "lake" is a minimal giving scene of cold landscape from Peloponnese that across the paint surface has- not by accident- a blue "dream like" form.
"the girl inside" is inspired from a photograph that I found in a newspaper. She escapes through it into another image of storytelling. The circle in the back-round is a reference of holy circles that we found at byzantine images and represents the balance between childhood and maturity.
"chronos" is the centre piece of this work. The female figure is gazing at the big sea. This painting represents, the idea of a Utopian dream, the contrast between static moments and the unforgiving time that changes anything. My representation suggests a process of working her colours in a way of symbolic action.
"daydreaming" and "empty" are by my artistic "dream square" , a kind of images that we could dream before drifting into sleep. It is notable that in these "dreams" exists a visual disorientation, something that is not going to happen (as if in a dream), transparency , doors that shouldn't exist and the uncertainty of the end of the story.
"Τempi" and "secret garden" are two paintings that are hiding a shadow of a person inside the full chromatic and floral forms. Nature, here from central Greece and Athens, is one of the favourite environments that I am trying to explore in my art. Figures are positioned far away from the main shapes. This fact makes more complicating the meaning of the subject but at last this is the point of my daydreaming.
"the big blue forest-Pavliani" is the latest work of Geraki. She got inspired from a big family walk in one of the most beautiful forests in Greece. Colouring forms of the boy's clothing are joined with neighbouring forms from the woods, The way of growing, the feeling of childhood are positioned in a path full of new kind of dreaming.
In "plastic" the beautiful girl is closed behind the transparency that can distort part of her. Fortunately the eyes see. The grumpy "grouch" refers to the process of maturity and our "grumpy" childhood self. While the game of everyday life is familiar and seemingly simple, the child and the random, sabotage us from the ultimate goal.. from growing up!
